Teaching Bio/Philosophy
Though music is comprised of notes, harmony, rhythm, etc. I believe music is more importantly made with passion, creativity, and empathy. My student-focused vision as an educator, unites the pedagogical method of music education while capturing student’s revelations for their own voice as a creative artist. Through a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, I encourage students to be curious about why harmonies sound effective, why certain rhythms help engage the listener, why arranging techniques bring different colors of a composition, just to name a few examples. Using my background as a classical composer and jazz vibraphonist, I direct my style of teaching and theory towards different genres and contexts of student’s musical journeys.

Composition
We will work on how to write music in any genre focusing on techniques, notation, aesthetics, and storytelling.

Music Theory
Studying for your AP Exams, college placement tests, or you just want to learn more about music theory? We will learn how to approach analysis from a conceptual standpoint so you can continue and analyze music independently.

Jazz Vibraphone
We will work on techniques of jazz vibraphone including approaches to harmony, improvisation, and technique through various eras of jazz including be-bop, modal, latin jazz, and other contemporary genres.

Improvisation
Improvisation is a great skill that any musician can add to their toolbox! We will work on how to come up with spontaneous ideas within your medium/genre, through practice of theory, harmonization, and creating melodies.
